5 Food Items Women Should Definitely Include In Their Diet

Gynaecology mainly refers to the reproductive and hormonal system. Roughly speaking, ‘gynaecology’ stands for the “science of women”.  In the Victorian era gynaecology meant the female science, while andrology meant the male science. But nowadays gynaecology usually denotes the reproductive and endocrinological health systems of both the sexes.

The female reproductive system consists of the vagina, uterus, ovaries, in addition to the breasts. The Female Gynaecology covers a wide range of issues from Menstruation, Menopause, Infertility, Pregnancy, Contraception, Endometriosis, Polycystic Ovary and other endocrinological problems.

There is a lot of stigma attached to the gynaecological health, especially in the under developed and developing countries of the world. From the onset of puberty girls should take care of their gynaecological health.

Proper nutrition, exercise, and medication should be maintained. Special emphasis should be laid on nutrition of adolescent and young women. A balanced and healthy diet is very important for the proper body functions. The International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) has mentioned that the deficiency of these nutrients causes health problems in young girls and women. Interestingly these nutrients are also the most included supplements in the diet. These are:

  • Iron
  • Iodine
  • Folate
  • Calcium
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin B12

So, in general women should include these foods in their diet to keep themselves healthy. These include:

SPINACH: Many of us do remember “Popeye, The Sailor Man”. Well Spinach does make us strong. That particular cartoon character endorsed the goodness of spinach for a reason. Spinach has an abundance of iron, folate and Vitamin A in it. This power packed vegetable helps in reducing the physical manifestation of PMS.

This keeps the yeast away.

TURMERIC: Turmeric has a special place in an Indian kitchen. According to the Molecular Oncology, presence of curcumin reduces the chances of breast cancer in women. Also, it helps in dealing with postpartum depression and vaginal dryness. Do not forget to indulge in a pinch of turmeric in your everyday diet ladies!

APPLE: We have all heard, “An apple a day, keeps the doctor away”! This proverb is certainly not an exaggeration. It prevents vaginal dryness. The isoflavone compound present in it helps in retaining water in the tissues. And  it also makes you want to hit the sack more! It provides lubrication in the vaginal area, helping in penetration. The polyphenols present in apple increases the blood flow in the vagina. It makes orgasms easier. So next time your partner complains about your disinterest in sex, you know what to eat!

And last but not the least, drink plenty of water each day. Drink 3-5 litres of water daily.  Maintaining a well-balanced, nutritious diet is a must for your health. A lot of taboo is attached with the gynaecological health. Most women feel embarrassed to talk about their gynaecological problems. Ladies, please do not! See your gynaecologist immediately when you face an issue. Our body is a temple. And like a temple, you should worship (take care) of your body. Your vagina is a part of your body!
