What more have the experts stated?

According to Dr. Sonali Kulkarni, director of the HIV and STD programs at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, “We had four cases about two weeks ago, and then six cases last week,” and “And so to us, that’s a sign that we are entering the summer season where people are more social and sexually active.”

The county usually records an average of approximately one or two cases per week. Mpox mainly occurs through contact with infected fluids, sores, sharing beds or objects contaminated with the virus, infection from infectious respiratory droplets through kissing, coughing or sneezing or just by touching.

Kulkarni added, “Potentially wearing more clothing like at dance clubs and parties, just cause it can spread even just from really close physical contact. And some folks have early mpox and they don’t know it. And so they’re not willingly spreading it, but they, unwillingly or unknowingly are spreading it,” as abc7.com reported.

The Department of Public Health has recently noted some new occurrences of the disease therefore anyone who develops with the sores that look like pimples or blisters, fever, chills, headache, muscle aches or swelling of any lymph node should ensure that he or she is tested for the disease.

Kulkarni added that the mpox virus does not change its strands as fast as the flu or COVID, and therefore, the two-vaccine dose shots are still sufficient. Such groups include men who have sex with other men.

She said, “Folks of any gender or sexual orientation who engage in commercial or transactional sex work,” as abc7.com reported.
