United States: The state of Wyoming has ordered a cat food recall because H5N1, commonly called “bird flu,” was detected in the products.

The Public Health Department of Laramie County declares in their latest announcement that Savage Cat Food Large Chicken Boxes 84 oz. and Small Chicken Boxes 21 oz. got recalled by the US Food and Drug Administration because of suspected H5N1 contamination. 

According to the official’s statement, “The boxes were distributed in Wyoming, as well as Colorado and Nebraska,” oilcity.news reported. 

Furthermore, “People who fed cats the product should watch for possible symptoms of bird flu. Symptoms can include fever, sluggishness, low appetite, reddened or inflamed eyes, discharge from eyes and nose, difficulty breathing, and neurological signs, such as stiff body movements, seizure, lack of coordination, and blindness,” the statement added.

Urgent Cat Food Recall 

The release states people must immediately call their veterinarian when their cat exhibits the mentioned signs after consuming the affected product

People who have the recalled product must deliver it back to their retail source to achieve proper disposal methods and obtain a refund. The virus could cause illness in human beings when it enters their eyes, nasal cavity, or mouth. 

Symptoms to Watch 

Additionally, “If you have handled the product, watch for symptoms of bird flu, which include eye redness or irritation, cough, sore throat, sneezing, runny/stuffy nose, muscle/body aches, headaches, fatigue, fever, trouble breathing, seizures, rash, diarrhea, nausea, and/or vomiting,” the released statement included. 

“People exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare provider,” it added.
